Behavioral Health Counselor Intern

Department: Clinical Services
Reports To: Clinical Supervisor / Independently Licensed Behavioral Health Professional
Location: Recovery Syndicate Chandler, Arizona
Internship Type: Graduate Practicum or Internship

Position Summary

This internship is ideal for graduate students seeking hands-on clinical experience. Under the supervision of a Licensed Behavioral Health Professional (LBHP), the intern will participate in individual and group counseling, treatment planning, documentation, and interdisciplinary teamwork, all while meeting university and Arizona requirements.

Essential Duties

• Assist with biopsychosocial assessments, intakes, and screenings.
• Provide supervised individual, group, and family counseling.
• Co-facilitate therapeutic and psychoeducational groups.
• Observe and assist with crisis interventions.
• Complete progress notes and treatment plans under supervision.
• Maintain confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA, ADHS, and Joint Commission Standards.
• Use the EHR according to policy.

Professional Growth

• Participate in required supervision.
• Attend trainings, staff meetings, and case reviews.
• Apply ethical decision-making and accept feedback.
• Work with expert clinical, medical, and administrative staff.
• Contribute to treatment planning and case discussions.

Qualifications

• Enrollment in a Masters program in Counseling, CMHC, Social Work, MFT, Psychology, or related field.
• Approved for practicum/internship by GCU, ASU, Capella, or other accredited university.
• Ability to complete onboarding and background check.
• Liability insurance if required by the university.

Supervision & Schedule

Weekly supervision per university guidelines.

All services are provided under the supervision of an Independently Licensed Behavioral Health Professional (LBHP).

Flexible schedule based on program needs; some evenings/weekends may be available.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit, stand, and engage in sessions for extended period`s.
